- This sections covers many procedures that you will use often.
- These simple procedures are sort of the "bread and butter"
- of word processing. You will find these commands easy
- to follow. They will add a great deal to your word processing
- background. Although some of the commands are not
- powerful they do perform work that you will use many
- times in a day.

- √√√ TO START
- Be in the WordPerfect program. If screen is not clean
- press <F7> N N.
- Status Line is displayed at bottom right corner of screen.
- You are now ready to use WordPerfect as a word processor.

- ▀ Let's Start by looking at the Help Key <F3>.
-
- √√√ THE HELP KEY <F3>
- This Function key <F3> displays over 200 commands.
- (F Function keys and combinations of the <Alt>,
- <Shift>, and <Ctrl> keys). Even with the large number of
- command-key information stored in the <F3> key they are
- easy to use.

- √√√ HOW TO USE THE <F3> COMMANDS
- Press the <F3> key.

- ▀ By pressing any letter you can get an alphabetical list
- of features for that letter:
- For example, if you press the letter F, the screen will
- display all the commands that start with F, and what they do,
- For example,

- File Management, List Files... Use <F5> key
-
- When you need some help for the right
- key to do a job: for example, to center
- a Title or a sentence press the "C" key
- for centering. The Help key <F3> will
- tell you that you need to use the,
- <Shift+F6> Key

- This key combination, when used before you type,
- will automatically center your work as you type.

- √√√ WORDPERFECT 5.0 TEMPLATE
- When the Help key <F3> is pressed twice,
- the WordPerfect Template appears on the screen.
-
- The Template is a layout of 10 boxes that contain
- the Function keys <F1> to <F10>. The chart shows what
- the ten F-Function keys do when used "alone", and
- what function they perform in combination with
- the <Ctrl>, <Shift> ,and <Alt> keys.

- Most computers have a small template
- made of cardboard that you put on your
- keyboard in front of your F Function
- keys, for easy reference.

- Press space bar or <Enter> key to clear screen.

- √√√ THE SHELL <Ctrl+F1>
- The Shell is an important key because it allows you
- to leave the WordPerfect Program and "Go To DOS".
- There may be times when you are writing letters and
- find there is no room left on your disk.
- The solution here is to exit to DOS, like this:

- Press and Hold Down the <Ctrl> key then Press the <F1> key.
- The bottom of the screen will show:
-
- 1 Go to DOS: 0
- Press 1 on your keyboard for "Go to DOS"
- This will exit you from WordPerfect.

- You can now use DOS commands: for example, to format a disk.
-
- Returning to WordPerfect
- Type the word "Exit" and press the <Enter> key.
- You will be returned to WordPerfect.

- √√√ QUICK CHECKING THE CONTENT OF A TEXT FILE
- How to Fast Check files!!
- You can save a lot of time when looking for a file and
- you are not quite sure of what it looks like. A lot
- of use should be made of the <F5>, list directory key.

- √√√ HOW TO EXAMINE A FILE
- Press the <F5> Function key twice to bring the directory
- of the disk onto the screen. Then move the highlighted bar
- over the name of a file. (Use the David2 file)

- To quickly see the file:
- Press the <Enter> Key for a quick look at the file.
- Then Press the <Enter> to leave file.
- If you want to retrieve the file press 1.
- Your program will appear on the screen.

- √√√ VIEW YOUR DOCUMENT BEFORE PRINTING
- To see what your document looks like on the printed page,
- Press <Shift+F7> then 6, to view your document.
- Press 3 to see exactly how it looks on paper.
- Press 1 or 3 if you want an enlarged view.
- Press F7 to return to document screen

- √√√ THE COMMAND FOR COLOR
- Press <Ctrl+F8>, the 5 Color Menu.
- The Ctrl+F8>) key simplifies putting colors
- into your letter writing and in pictures for a
- newsletter or menus like a restaurant menu.

- Company brochures are easily made with colors. WordPerfect
- is equipped to do Desktop Publishing like making company
- newsletters, brochures, and writing manuals.
- It is easy to create all of this with just a few Function
- keys. Of course, for color, you will need a color printer.

- √√√ THE BLOCK COMMAND <ALT+F4>
- The Block command is used to highlight a word, sentence,
- or a whole page. By highlighting you isolate that
- part of the document from the main document.
- In this stage the "Blocked material" can easily be:
-
- ▀ Deleted, or moved to another location.
- ▀ Be assigned "attributes" like italics, bold lettering,
- or underlining.
-
- ▀ The letters of a word can be made larger, smaller, or as
- subscript letters. (A character below the line).
- ▀ Highlighting is not needed to make different colors.

- √√√ WORDPERFECT GRAPHICS (PICTURES)
- The David6 and David7 files will be used as samples.
-
- HOW TO RETRIEVE THE DAVID6 FILE
- ▀ Be in WordPerfect. Have a clean screen.
- ▀ Insert the disk into the A disk drive.
- ▀ Press <F5>, then press <=> sign.
- ▀ Type A: (For A directory).
- ▀ Press <F5> key twice to list the files.

- ▀ Move the scroll bar over the David6 file.
- ▀ Press "1" to retrieve file to screen.
- ▀ David 6 file is a letter with a butterfly at the top
- center of the page.
- You will not see the butterfly until we use the
- View Document command <Shift+F7>.

- ▀ To view document: Press <Shift+F7>,
- then 6 to view document and graphic..
- ▀ Press <F7> to return to document screen.
- ▀ Press <F7> N N to clear screen.

- √√√ HOW TO RETRIEVE DAVID7
- David7 is a 3 page document with:
- HEADERS AND FOOTERS. These are messages and logos that
- appear at the top and bottom of each page of a letter.

- To retrieve David7:
- Press <F5> twice, to access the directory.
- Scroll down and highlight David7.
- Press "1" to retrieve the David7 file onto screen.
-
- To view document and Graphic:
- Press <Shift+F7>, then 6 to view document.
- The document has a large and small butterfly.
- Now..Press the <Page Down> key to see Page 2 of document.
- Then, press <Page Down> key again, to see Page 3 of document.

- √√√ FACING PAGES
- Now.. Press 4 (for Facing pages).
- Pages 2 and 3 appear on the screen, Page 2 on left and
- Page 3 on right.

- Press <Page Up>, and Page 1 appears on the screen at right.
- Press 3 now, for Full Page.
- Document centers and appears at center of screen.
- Press <Page Down> for Page 2, and again for Page 3.

- Press <F7> to return to document screen.
- To clear screen: Press <F7>, then N N.
- You now have a clean screen.. ready for the next graphic.

- √√√ MACRO FOR RETRIEVING BUTTERFLY
- This is a sample Macro that will retrieve the Butterfly
- graphic. A Macro combines several steps into one or two
- for speed.
- This Macro procedure can be used for any of the other
- WordPerfect graphics whose extension ends in .WPG.

- √√√ TO START
- ▀ Press <Ctrl+F10>. (The Macro Command)
- ▀ At Define Macro: Press <Alt+B>.
- ▀ At Description: Type Butterfly Press <Enter> key.

- ▀ At Macro Def:
- Press <Alt+F9>. (The Graphic command)
- Press 1 1
- Press 6 (for size)..
- Press 3 for Both..
- Press 6: for 6 inches <Enter>.
- Press 6: again for inches <Enter>.

- ▀ Press 1 (For Filename).
- ▀ Type in: BUTTRFLY.WPG.
- (Note Butterfly has no E)
- ▀ Press <Enter>, then <F7>.

- ▀ Press <Shift+F7>, then 6 (View document).
- ▀ Finish by pressing <Ctrl+F10>.
- ▀ Press <F7>, then N N to clear screen.
